Fandom news

It's been a while since I posted about the stuff I'm currently watching or reading, and I have a lot to chose from, so I thought I'd make a group rec-post-of-sorts. Feel free to comment and rant about any of these fandoms - especially the new ones!

Some fandom updates:

One Piece is being awesome these days! I can't go into details because I'm talking about the scans here, but I'm all hyped up about the current arc, and wait every chapter squirming in my seat and flail happily once it's out!
So for those of you who got late and have to catch up, move your asses! It's totally worth it ~
Shippy stuff:
Totally obsessing over the Supernovas right now. Also I went back and checked the Skypea arc, which I'm probably going to buy in French, just so I can see Kamakiri worry about Wyper again and again. I ship those two like burning.

HunterxHunter is on hiatus again. Bastard genius Togashi stopped right after he launched a new, very very promising new arc. Why mention it then? First because the previous arc was really awesome, and is definitely worth reading - I'm looking at all you whiners who didn't like the kimera ants arc by the way your tastes really suck cause that arc was fucking awesome too.
Second, the series is having a new anime! If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time to pick it up and enjoy it from the beginning! Even if you've already read the beginning, the trip down memory lane is a great one, believe me. I've enjoyed it a lot these last few weeks.
Shippy stuff:
The new anime made me see the light of HisokaIlumi - which is probably the less fucked up ship involving Hisoka I could find. Also it's pretty. And oh, Leolio and Kurapika, so cute right from the beginning. (I felt like crying all over again during the scene when Leolio explains that everything is about the money.)

Fate Zero's anime resumed! The anime is gorgeous, the characters are great, it has tension and suspense and epic action scenes, and since VLC was updated since the end of the first part, I you can enjoy it full quality with the most common software.
Shippy stuff:
Archer and Kirei. *___*
Lancer and Kayneth ;__;
FateZero!Lancer and FateStayNight!Lancer IS MY OFFICIAL CRACK PAIRING.
AND CASTER AND RYUUNOSUKE. SO HORRIBLY, HIDEOUSLY WRONG, BUT. THEIR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER IS ALL OVER THE SCREEN! In children's blood and gore.

New stuff I haven't talked about yet:

(Mangas)

Kurosagi
I started reading it on my usual scanlations website, and I'm really enjoying it so far. the concept is your typical loner out for revenge plot, but the subjet makes the series quite original: it's all about swindlers. More precisely, the protagonist is a swindler who only targets other swindlers.
Basically this series is some okay characters, more plot and a truckload of mindfuck. The suspense really works for me, especially since the author went ahead and made the genius boy protagonist fail on a few occasions.
Shippy stuff:
This is one of those series where I don't really need to ship anything to enjoy it. The het hints are okay, I guess, though I'd be a lot more curious about Shiraishi and Kurosaki, I think.

(Animes)

Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist)
Well, not much to say about that one... I knew sakoni reads it, so I gave the anime a go. I haven't checked the manga yet, so I don't know how faithful an adaptation it was, but it was quite enjoyable on its own. The story is rather cliché, but the characters are fun and relatable, and the anime is fast enough to avoid getting boring.
My only objection is that it ended so soon - having the hero reach his goal after barely 20 episodes was a bit anti-climatic for me.

Sket Dance
This is a humor series about a high school club of "helpers" taking requests from other students. Apparently it's kinda close to Gintama.
To be honest, I don't get that sort of humor. I didn't enjoy the series much, except for one thing: the antagonists. The student council are actually quite fun, especially the president and vice-president.
Shippy stuff:
Agata (aka the student council president, genius with a "nasty personality" as he calls it) and Sasuke (aka the tsundere martial artist very earnest about his job vice-president).

Aquarion Evol
A mecha series with absolutely LUDICROUS sexual intercourse metaphors. *insert lots of eye rolling*
The story is about a world that is raided by giant robots from another dimension which try to kidnap people. To protect the city from these robots, a school was built to train teenagers to pilot the aquarion, a mecha in parts that works when three teenagers pilot three parts and "unite", both the robot parts and their minds (hence the ridiculous sex metaphors). At first girls and boys are separated and pilot two different robot but then the main couple comes in and activate the stronger version of Aquarion and the separation of boys and girls is overruled blah blah blah.
Honestly at first I watched it because the animation is gorgeous. The plot is okay, though, if the metaphors don't irk you, and the characters are actually interesting. Plus the two guys I ship get some ship tease! They even have a yaoi fangirl in the show XD
Shippy stuff:
Cayenne (aka grumpy confrontational overprotective big brother of the heroine, with some visions as his power) and Shrade (aka über cool and powerful loner with a music related power, that just happens to poke fun at Cayenne every time they meet).

Kuroko's Basket
Your typical sport shounen. I enjoyed the first two episodes and the first two volumes of the manga, though, mostly because of the main characters. Kuroko is a genius with below-average abilities, whose special skill is to make himself forgettable so he can pass the ball to his teammates. He is a "shadow", which of course implies he needs a "light": here enters Kagami Taiga, a giant, talented rookie coming back from America, with ambition and a rather agressive personality.
I don't know, the interaction is nice to watch, plus the whole "invisible man" idea is kinda cool. Oh! And there is a girl AND SHE IS NOT THE FUCKING MANAGER AKA EYE-CANDY! It's even lampshaded ♥ She's your coach, bitches, and she's crazy good at it. That was a really nice surprise.
Did I mention that the anime is very pretty? Cause it is. The manga isn't, though, so I'd recommend the anime over it so far.
Shippy stuff:
Kuroko and Taiga.
Kise => Kuroko
