[Rec] Kuragehime / Princess Jellyfish
Jan. 18th, 2011 12:57 amAnd my new year resolution should be to do less rants and more positive things on this LJ. (It won't be, cause the spot's already taken and I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT MY DAILY AMOUNT OF RANTING but hey. I can try and be positive, heh?)
"The story centres around Kurashita Tsukimi , a huge fan of jellyfish (kurage, a wordplay on the "kura/mi" and "tsuki/ge" in her name) and a girl who moves to Tokyo to become an illustrator. She moves into Amamizukan, an apartment complex that is full of fujoshi (diehard female otaku) with a no-men-allowed rule. However, one day, Tsukimi invites a stylishly fashionable woman to stay at her room at Amamizukan — only to discover that the guest is not who she seems to be."

So.
This anime is awesome because:
* it has a bunch of female nerds. They're not your typical yaoi fangirl, they're weird, they're funny, they're crazy, they'll probably be friends until the day they die. And their weird rules and weaknesses are hilarious.
* the main, female character is a shy, dreamy girl of the rather mature sort. She doesn't cry for nothing! She doesn't whine when whe cries! She's very very cute, and also a huge jellyfish dork. An it's really nice to see her grow from terrified of the outer world to... still terrified, but tackling a small bit of it, in her own way.
* the main, male character is a transvestite... AND NOT GAY. And not ridiculously flamboyant, either. I know it sounds silly, but I really enjoyed that he is perfectly straight and sane, thank you very much, he just loves pretty girly clothes. Also he's really cute and caring, even though he keeps pushing the heroine and her friends. (They need someone like him anyway.)

It's a short anime, it's crack-tastic and it's complete. Probably not the best anime ever, and the "all women are princesses" undertones should annoy me but it's still nice and OKAY WHO AM I KIDDING, AWESOME HETEROSEXUAL TRANSVESTITE CHARACTER YES/YES?
